NIA looks to launch in the region

The National Insurance Academy recently held a roundtable with a few stakeholders within the UAE and Oman insurance sectors.

Introducing the NIA, director G. Srinivasan said that the institute had trained 6000 professionals from 65 Afro-Asian countries. The organisation is looking to connect with the regional insurance industry in terms of offering student placements, calendar programmes for management executives within the industry, customised programmes addressing specific needs within an insurance company and setting up a centre in the UAE. Discussions are in the early stages. The NIA is also planning on undertaking research and consultancy for regional insurance companies. Some examples of previous research programmes include risk culture in general insurance, fraud in motor insurance, cyber risk, among others.

The NIA was established in 1980 by a few public sector companies in India namely: Life Insurance Corporation of India, The New India Assurance Co. Limited, National Insurance Co. Limited, The Oriental Insurance Co. Limited and United Insurance Co. Limited. It has been running management development programmes for the past 39 years and ventured into a two-year full time post graduate management academic programme in 2004.
